Enclosed Fume Hoods

The purpose of laboratory fume hoods is to reduce exposure to hazardous substances and vapors and to protect the scientists from fume inhalation by exhausting the fumes. Most laboratories have procedures in place to help prevent fires. The presence of ignition sources used in experiments such as Bunsen burners, hot plates, and pyrophoric materials and the inherent volatility of many chemicals typically found in laboratories can easily result in a fire-related incident.

When a fire breaks out, the airflow in the hood can inhibit the ability of the lab’s automatic fire sprinkler to react to the fire which is exactly why a Stat-X fire suppression system in the fume hood micro-environment is ideal to suppress the fire.

Stat-X fire suppression systems protect laboratory fume hoods. Our in-cabinet system will detect and suppress the fire shortly after it starts while it is still relatively small, before is consumes the fume hood, and requires extinguishment by the building’s sprinkler system.
